M8 Reed proximity switches housed in a threaded barrel to enable easy fitting and adjustment.

These M8 threaded sensors are built for mounting in threaded holes. It is particularly useful in industrial applications where distance adjustments need to be made every now and then.

So first, what does M8 stand for ?  M8 is the designation for a metric (M) sized screw that is 8mm (8) in diameter.

Our range is suitable for carrying up to 10W and is physically robust with stainless steel versions.

Various activating distances are available depending on the magnet and the AT band used. This sensor can be supplied with different cable length.
The normally open contacts (NO) will close when the magnet actuator moves in close proximity to the switch. The normally closed contacts (NC) will open when a magnet is approaching. Magnets are available separately – see our range here.

All sensors are tested 100% for Operate AT, Release AT, Static Contact Resistance and Variable Contact Resistance before packing.

Activation approach and activation distances :

Being an omni-polar device, these sensor can be actuated with either a north pole or a south pole : a magnet can approach it from any angle, with any pole.

Here is an example for a sensor Ref. PTI60020 to be used with a magnet Ref. UR801000 :

Typical applications :

Although we can never restrict the use of a reed sensor to a particular field, typical applications are presence / position detections.
